Variations of Simon Says

Updated: May 20, 2019

We all know this game but why not making it more fun by changing it a little?

By the way, this game is amazing because you can revise with it not only vocabulary items but also fixed expressions.

So, let's get started!

1.Time to move a little

Prepare flashcards with what you want to revise.

For younger children it would be better to have pictures instead of the written form of the word.

For children that are just beginning their writing journey use some easy, short words like CAT, COW, RAT. You can also put little images on each flashcard to help them with identifying the right one.

Then put your cards on the wall and make sure that the surrounding is safe.

Children sit in the middle of the class. When you say Simon says: touch the cat they have to run to the appropriate card and touch it.

2.Roar like a lion!

This game gives you a great opportunity to teach your students sounds of animals. Kids have lots of fun pretending them.

You can use such phrases:

1.Roar like a lion.

2.Bark like a dog.

3.Meow like a cat.

4.Moo like a cow.

5.Quack like a duck.

5.Neigh like a horse.

6.Hoot like an owl.

7.Hiss like a snake.

3.Break the ice

You can even use this game as an icebreaker for children that know the basic expressions. Get them into a circle and give commands like:

wave at, say hello to, point at, smile at, give high-five to, shake hands with, say sth nice to

4.Just have some fun

Here you have a compilation of some funny ideas for a quick game of Simon says:

play air guitar waddle like a penguin

fly like a plane cry like a baby

be scissors ack like a monkey

yawn tickle your friend

walk backwards move like a snake

make a funny face give somebody a high-five

be a robot be very slow

jump like a bunny sneeze

stomp like an elephant be a scary ghost
